How comforting is to think that all our hard work and toil will be rewarded with a crop of something good? How wonderful to think that putting love and care into some project or person will indeed be rewarded.
Of course, while most Americans give lip service to the notion of our right to pursue happiness, all too many people do not really believe it applies to them. Many people simply believe they don’t deserve happiness. And even those few who do believe it seem to accept unhappiness as simple bad luck.
Every person does indeed deserve happiness and what is more happiness is contagious. The more happy people there are around then even more people will find happiness. We owe it ourselves to work on our own happiness and we owe it to society as well. Our own happiness will help others and inspire others to find happiness. If we are unhappy then we are likely making others unhappy as well (even if unintentionally) and it is extremely unlikely we are doing much to contribute to the happiness of others.
So how do you become a happy person? You simply reap your own happiness. But how? Take these four simple steps:
Step one — Ready Yourself For Happiness
You can accomplish this step by first determining that you want to be happy. Part of being happy is wanting to be happy. Once you have committed yourself to the course of finding happiness for yourself then you must rid yourself of the notion that happiness is luck or based on possessions or persons. No thing and no one can make you happy. Happiness comes from within yourself.
Step two — Envision Yourself As Happy
Every day when you first wake up and at various points during the day spend some time envisioning yourself as a happy person. Picture yourself laughing, smiling, relaxing. Imagine yourself as happy. The more you can fix this image of yourself as happy in your mind then the easier it will be for you to truly become happy.
Step three — Assume You Will Be Happy
Many people tend to assume that they will spend much of their lives either unhappy or at least not really happy. However we have all seen those people who do seem to be genuinely happy with their lives. They smile frequently, laugh often, and seem to be in good humor most of the time. Yet this is not because they are richer or more successful. Sometimes these people were just born with the good fortune to have an optimistic outlook that life has not yet knocked out of them, but often these people have simply chosen that they will be happy and they recognize that there is always something about their lives that makes them happy. You know this is true of yourself as well. Concentrate on the areas of your life that give you happiness whenever you feel unhappiness seeping in and no matter what assume that you will be, you can be, a happy person.
Step four — Pursue Your Happiness
Happiness is rarely a wonderful accident of fate. Happiness is rarely found by accident. While you may find happiness in unexpected places you must first open yourself to the possibility of happiness and prepare yourself to accept it when you find it. Some people are so miserable that they step right around happiness when they encounter. Don’t let this happen to you. What is more, don’t simply sit at home waiting for happiness to come knocking on your door. Go out and live life. Think about what currently makes you happy and spend time in those activities and think about what might make you happy and spend time experimenting. The more time you spend actively living your life then the more likely that you will also lead a happy life.
Remember, you deserve a happy life and you can lead a happy life, but in the end you reap what you sow. If you are sowing happiness in your life then you will reap happiness as well. Read More »
Do you ever come to a task and say to yourself “This looks too hard I’m not even going to try”? If you answered yes keep reading and I might be able to shed some light on your life. The truth being that if you don’t even try, you absolutely will fail or not accomplish your task. Think about it, if you are trying something for the first time and you fail you probably had a 50%/50% chance of succeeding. If you didn’t even try you had a 0% chance of succeeding. Same thing applies to getting things done.
Let’s say you have decided that today you are going to clean your house. You start out your day planning all the things you want to get done and how long it’s going to take you to do them. Then as the day moves forward you procrastinate and side track until hours have passed and you haven’t even started yet. You might even have talked yourself out of doing you task at this point because too much time has passed and you haven’t even started yet. This will lead you to the 0% success of accomplishing your task. Even if you had a reward set like trying one of those best double shower heads for your bathroom at the end of day might not be a good enough reason to get you started at the first place.
“People that don’t try will always fail”
I’m going to help you overcome this by giving you a few simple steps to follow and if you do you will never have the 0% you will at least have the 50% chance of succeeding.
Step 1 Get Started
If you simply start or get moving in the right direction you can always make changes to your plans later and by starting you will feel staying on task easier as each minute passes.
Step 2 Don’t Stop
This one should be easy enough. Once you get started don’t stop to check your text messages every 2 minutes or make yourself a sandwich every time you walk into the kitchen. This little stops make it harder to stay on track and if you just keep going you will be done before you know it.
Step 3 Don’t Waste Time
Wasting time will turn a regular task into a horrible project that takes up all your free time and keeps you busy doing things you don’t want to be doing. You can either right out an agenda or timeline of what you want to get done or how long each subtask should take you to complete. Especially don’t do all the easy parts first and save the hard stuff for last because when you get to the hard stuff you will probably drag it out for so long you won’t even get finished.
Step 4 Get Finished
Get finished and do something fun! Don’t just keep knit picking every minor detail get the task done and go to do something else. It’s not hard to get things done if you just focus on your task and stay organized.
You can almost always hear in every interview: what is the most desirable thing for one human to do in order to achieve its goals? The answer is simple – motivation! Yes, motivation is what drives us to do most amazing things in this world. Without it, we would be passive about our lives in general and that we wouldn’t make the progresses we’ve made throughout history. Human beings differ from animals in this way because they always want to do more things, and this is where it gets interesting. Humans get so much energy and that energy has to go somewhere useful.
Building up the motivation is essential if you want to get any work done. Motivation is often linked to planning, well; this is only the half truth. It doesn’t always have to mean that planning is linked to motivation simply because when you get the feeling of motivation, you don’t plan in your head about what you are going to do next, but instead you are letting the feeling of motivation flow through you and THEN you go out and do what you’ve planned to do all along. Planning however about doing or reaching certain things is simply helping motivation take its course and setting yourself further along the path of your wanted success. Doing small things everyday will essentially invite the motivation to do things more and more and over time, this will become a (good) habit. You will be familliar with the feeling of motivation and you will easily achieve whatever you wanted to achieve. Many people will want to know your secret to success and trying to explain will be the most difficult thing you will have to do. Sharing the secret of your success will be the good thing to do – because this way you won’t be selfish and you will let other people achieve happiness through their goals as well. So sharing is caring after all. Step by step you will learn about many ways to achieve motivation but it primarily be about your work. People often link progress in work to progress in their everyday life and this is what keeps people motivated. But success in work is not what brings you long term happiness – it should be you. You should be the source of your happiness. Everyday victories will surely drive you through it but remember, at the end of the day, you is what drove you to your success, not your work or any other type of thing. If you feel like you can’t reach motivaton on your own, it is not a bad idea to link yourself to other people who need help with their motivation. It is actually a good idea because this way you will help each other out and together you will over time reach your wanted success. Many times we can’t do certain things alone, and it is often good and not a shame if you want to seek help from a friend or a professional.
